The Government Railway Police (GRP) has made three-tier elaborate security arrangements in railway stations in Chennai for the 77th Republic Day function to be held on Monday (January 26, 2026).

As per a circular issued by the K. Vanniaperumal, Director General of Police (Railways), the GRP has deputed a total of 1,450 police personnel, along with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the State’s Special Police force, and they would be involved in the security arrangements.

The DGP has directed the police officials to depute police personnel at the entrance of all the railway stations and have baggage scanners installed in important railway stations to scan the bags of the passengers. Also, the railway stations comprising Dr. MGR Central, Egmore, and Tambaram, would have sniffer dogs to help the security personnel to maintain intensive search of the bags.

The police officials have been directed to have round-the-clock surveillance through the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras monitored through the control centre to prevent any untoward incidents.

The GRP has also informed the passengers to call the helpline no. 1512 or send details through whatsapp at 9962500500.
