Traffic on the Bengaluru-Hosur Road was disrupted on Wednesday after a portion of National Highway-44 caved in near Attibele.

According to officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the incident occurred during deep excavation work for a vehicular underpass, when an extended section of the carriageway gave way. The affected stretch is being excavated and refilled to stabilise the soil and prevent further slippage.

“Two vehicular underpasses are currently under construction to eliminate accident-prone black spots, out of the three planned for the stretch, with retaining wall works nearing completion. Once the project is completed, the national highway will run at a lower level, while local traffic will continue to move at grade,” NHAI officials said.
