Does Superman Have a Post-Credits Scene? 2025 Movie Ending Explained

James Gunn’s Superman is finally out in theaters, and the movie was certainly worth the wait.

Before you head to the theater to see David Corenswet in action as the eponymous character and his human counterpart, Clark Kent, you’re likely going to want to know if you should stick around after the credits roll. There is quite a fun surprise at the end of the movie that those who have seen it cannot stop talking about.

The DC Studios film also stars Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, Edi Gathegi as Michael Holt/Mister Terrific, Anthony Carrigan as Rex Mason/Metamorpho, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl.

One thing that Gunn promised ahead of the film is that he is certain he picked the right guy to portray the superhero.

“The easy part is, he looks like Superman,” the director told GQ in July 2025. “But the fact that David is a theater kid that’s so athletic is even weirder. I don’t know if anybody I’ve worked with before would’ve been able to do this stuff, besides maybe Chris Pratt.”

How Does ‘Superman’ End?

It comes as no surprise that Lex has it out for Superman for the entirety of the film. At the start, Superman stops Boravia’s invasion of Jarhanpur, but not without consequences. Some citizens of Metropolis question why he got involved in a foreign conflict. Lex creates an evil counterpart of Superman, Ultraman, to follow him through Metropolis and also lets a fire-breathing monster on the loose in the city after the invasion gets derailed.

Superman gets backup from some of his fellow caped crusaders, Green Lantern, Mister Terrific and Hawkgirl, to take the monster down. However, when a video from his biological parents surfaces telling him to take over the world and kill everyone he has to, people begin to lose trust in Superman. Lex imprisons the superhero in another dimension and restrains his powers. With Metamorpho’s cooperation, Superman regains his powers. Mister Terrific is summoned by Lois to help free all of the prisoners from the other dimension.

Political tensions continue to rise, and Superman faces off with his clone, who is incredibly strong, and another villain, The Engineer, played by María Gabriela de Faría. Lois and her crew at The Daily Planet publish evidence that repeated attempts to invade Jarhanpur were done for Lex’s own selfish desire and thirst for power, along with the fact that he was the one providing arms for Boravia. He is arrested as Superman and his gang of heroes pick up the shattered pieces that Lex’s plan caused. Clark reunites with Lois, kissing her in a magical movie moment mid-air.

Breaking Down the ‘Superman’ Mid-Credits Scene

The mid-credits scene is actually quite lighthearted and may already be familiar to a lot of fans of the DC Universe.

In the mid-credits scene, Superman sits on the moon with his back facing the audience. He adorably snuggles with his dog, Krypto, as they admire the Earth from afar. It’s a sweet scene that simply gives the character a break from the chaos that Lex Luthor unleashed in the 129-minute film.

The image of Superman sitting with Krypto was used to promote the film, as it was featured on the IMAX poster and generated a ton of buzz on social media ahead of the film’s theatrical release.

“I can’t get this shot of Superman and Krypto out of my head, I love how long the cape is here,” one person wrote while sharing the photo on X on July 5, 2025.

What Happens in the Superman Post-Credits Scene?

The post-credits scene will bring a smile to your face. After the credits roll, Superman and Mister Terrific are seen assessing the damage in Metropolis following Lex’s attacks. While Mister Terrific is able to repair the city, there is one crooked building that Superman isn’t too impressed by.

“It’s just a little off,” Superman says, to which Mister Terrific responds, “What do you want me to do?! Do you want me to take it apart and put it back together?!”

Mister Terrific ends up walking off, but Superman calls out to him, saying, “Hey, man, I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to bum you out! I shouldn’t have brought it up!”

Superman then tells himself that he could be “such a jerk sometimes.”
