Filmmaker Karan Johar on Monday took a trip down memory lane as he celebrated nine years of his 2016 romantic drama Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Taking to social media, Johar shared a series of behind-the-scenes moments from the film’s shoot along with a reflective caption that underlined his emotional connection to the project.
Ae Dil Hai Mushkil turns 9: Karan Johar calls it his “most personal film” in a heartfelt note, shares behind-the-scenes pictures!
“One year short of a decade and it honestly feels like yesterday when I was on set of perhaps the most personal film I have ever made,” he wrote. “I was thrilled to be doing what I do, with people who were just exceptional as artists — from the cast to the crew. My dil will never forget this!! Thank you for letting Ae Dil Hai Mushkil grow… for breathing life and love into it till now!!”
Released in 2016, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil starred Ranbir Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan in pivotal roles, with Fawad Khan in a special appearance. The film, written, directed, and produced by Johar under the Dharma Productions banner, explored the complexities of unrequited love, friendship, heartbreak, and emotional intimacy through the intertwined lives of Ayan, Alizeh, and Saba.
Set across London, Paris, Vienna, and Lucknow, the film stood out for its music by Pritam and its poetic take on modern relationships. Despite clashing with Shivaay at the box office, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil went on to become a commercial success and remains one of Johar’s most emotionally resonant works.
On the professional front, Karan Johar is currently hosting Pitch To Get Rich, a business reality show streaming on JioHotstar.
