Even after several admission rounds, over 4,000 seats in Delhi University’s undergraduate (UG) courses remain vacant, officials said.
In the final on-the-spot mop-up round, which concluded on Monday, 1,599 students completed the payment and were allocated seats. The university will not conduct any more rounds of admissions.
“Around 4,450 seats are still vacant. Preferences of several students, who turned up for the spot round, did not match with the programmes that have vacant seats,” said Haneet Gandhi, the Dean of Admissions. For the spot mop-up round, which required students to be physically present, the university received over 12,000 applications.
The admissions in the mop-up round were based on Class 12th board results instead of the Common University Entrance Test (CUET).
“The vacancies are in courses that are not sought after or in colleges that are located in remote locations,” an official said, adding that such vacancies arise every year and are not an anomaly.
