AIADMK district secretaries to meet on February 4

AIADMK district secretaries will meet at the party headquarters on February 4 to discuss the preparedness of the organisation for the Assembly election.

To be chaired by AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami, the meeting may witness the functionaries giving their nod to Mr. Palaniswami for all the decisions taken by him in connection with the poll alliance. It was on December 10 that the party’s general council met in Vanagaram near Chennai where Mr. Palaniswami was authorised to decide on the alliance matter.

After tying up with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in April 2025, the AIADMK stitched an alliance with the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) headed by Anbumani Ramadoss. The Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK), led by former MP and MLA T.T.V. Dhinakaran, has become a constituent of the coalition, thanks to efforts of the BJP. A couple of smaller parties have also joined the alliance.

On January 24, the party completed its exercise of holding interviews with aspirants. In total, the party had received 10,175 applications from ticket aspirants for the Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. On Thursday, Mr Palaniswami flatly rejected an offer of his erstwhile colleague and former coordinator, O. Panneerselvam for the re-entry to the organisation.
