AIDSO demands impartial probe into death of Odisha student in Kalaburagi

All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) has called for an impartial investigation into the death of Jayashree Nayak, a final-year B.Sc geology student from Odisha, at the Central University of Karnataka hostel in Kadaganchi, Aland taluk of Kalaburagi district in Karnataka.

Jayashree, a fifth-semester undergraduate student, was found dead in her hostel room on July 30.

The incident has once again raised troubling questions over mental health and emotional well-being of students in premier academic institutions.

In a statement issued by AIDSO district secretary Tulajaram N.K., the organisation expressed deep shock over the growing number of student deaths in Central universities and institutions of higher learning across India.

“This is not an isolated case. The increasing frequency of such incidents points to the worsening campus environment that breeds fear and anxiety among students,” Mr. Tulajaram claimed.

He further said that it is critical for the university administration and authorities to act with urgency and transparency. “We demand a fair and impartial inquiry into the circumstances leading to this tragedy. Immediate steps should be taken to prevent recurrence,” he said.

AIDSO emphasised the need for strong support systems on campus, including accessible and empathetic counselling services, and the creation of a more supportive and pressure-free academic environment.

“Students must feel safe, heard and supported, not overwhelmed by academic and social pressures,” according to the statement.

The district unit of AIDSO has urged the university authorities and the government to take this matter seriously and ensure justice for the deceased student while addressing broader issues impacting student mental health.
