The city’s air quality continued to be in the ‘very poor’ category on Sunday, with 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) reading of 377 at 4 p.m.
It is expected to slip into the ‘severe’ category on Monday, according to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
“Air quality is likely to be in the ‘severe’ category from Monday to Wednesday. The outlook for the next six days is that air quality is likely to be in the ‘severe’ to ‘very poor’ category,” the Centre’s Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi stated.
An AQI between 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’, as per the CPCB.
The Aam Aadmi Party on Sunday fired a fresh salvo at the government, stating that basic cleanliness, sewer maintenance, and pollution control have taken a back seat since the BJP was voted to power. Addressing a gathering at Pochanpur, Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj highlighted the “failure” of governance under the BJP. He said the things that were supposed to happen, like cleaning of streets, sewers, and air did not happen.
“No other major improvement took place. Only one thing happened. Now, from top to bottom, such ‘goondagardi (hooliganism)’ has spread that if someone puts a hand on your neck, you do not even know where to go. Because the same MP, the same party’s MLA, the same party’s MCD, so where will you go,” he said.
