Andhra Pradesh electricity employees’ talks with power utilities on October 17

The AP State Power Employees’ Joint Action Committee (APSPEJAC) is scheduled to hold a fresh round of negotiations with Chief Secretary and Special CS (Energy) K. Vijayanand on October 17, on the host of demands put forth by them before the management of the power utilities.

According to official sources, most of demands have been conceded, and one that remains a sticking point is the regularisation of contract / outsourced workers.

As regards the pay scale, which is a main demand, the AP-Transco constituted a committee to study and submit the recommendations, and submit its report within three months.

It has AP-Transco Director (Finance) as Chairman and General Manager (Expenditure) of APEPDCL and General Manager (Audit) of AP-Genco as members, and AP-Transco Chief General Manager (Finance) as member-convener.

The APSPEJAC was to go on an indefinite strike from October 15 to press for their demands but it postponed it as the power utilities invited it for talks, and some of the issues were settled. A charter of 16 demands were laid on the table and 13 long-pending grievances requiring immediate resolution.

The employees / workers / contract workers staged protests to mount pressure on the utilities in the run-up to the proposed strike. The discussions on Friday are expected to break the deadlock.
