Applications have been called for appointment of para legal volunteers to Dakshina Kannada District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) and the four Taluk Legal Services Committees (TLSCs) in the district.
Around 100 volunteers will be taken at the DLSA while about 50 volunteers will be taken for each of the TLSCs in Belthangady, Sullia, Puttur and Bantwal.
On September 23, DLSA Member Secretary Zaibunnisa told reporters in Mangaluru that the para legal volunteers will be a link between the DLSA/TLSCs and the people. These volunteers will be involved in legal awareness activities. They will also help people in taking assistance of Legal Service Authorities in getting disputes resolved through mediation, Lok Adalat and Permanent Lok Adalat. Each volunteer will be paid ₹750 per day.
“Those who have passion to serve people can apply for the post, which will be for a period of one year,” she said.
The volunteers will make regular visits to prison to help inmates get legal relief. They will be actively involved in preventing bonded labour and child marriage. The volunteers will also be involved in conducting surveys by the DLSA too.
Interested persons have to submit their applications to the DLSA by October 6, Ms. Zaibunnisa said.
As per National Legal Services Authority, the PLVs shall be literate, preferably matriculate, with a capacity for overall comprehension. They can be teachers, retired government employees, law students, anganwadi workers, doctors and members of socially oriented NGOs and clubs.
