Officials of all the five newly formed corporations under the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) will be trained to use the ASTraM app developed by the Bengaluru Traffic Police for real-time monitoring of potholes and waterlogging in the city.
Tushar Giri Nath, Additional Chief Secretary of the Urban Development Department (UDD), noted that the ASTraM app and the ‘Gundi Gamana’ must be integrated for better monitoring of potholes and spots prone to waterlogging, during a multi-department meeting held in Malleswaram on Friday.
The Traffic Police Department recently identified 4,822 potholes across the city, of which only 1,861 have been filled.
Mr. Nath ordered the filling of the remaining 2,961 potholes at the earliest, with senior officers directed to personally inspect the repairs. He mentioned that waterlogging was another concern, with 137 vulnerable locations identified by the Traffic Police. While problems at 56 locations have already been addressed, Mr. Nath directed officials to resolve the remaining 81 spots and provide a permanent solution to ensure that rainwater does not stagnate on roads.
He further noted that contractors working on white-topping and black-topping projects across the GBA limits must be held responsible for maintaining roads in good condition.
Mr. Nath emphasised that all roads undergoing white-topping and black-topping must remain pothole-free and suitable for smooth traffic movement.
“Currently, black-topping work is being undertaken on 400 km of roads, while white-topping is in progress on 150 km of roads, with Bengaluru having a total of 1,681 km of arterial and sub-arterial roads,” Mr. Nath said. He directed officials to prepare a detailed list of roads where work has been completed, is in progress, or is yet to begin, and share it with the respective municipal corporations.
The meeting also reviewed traffic congestion caused by metro construction along the Outer Ring Road near Nagawara and Hebbal. Officials were instructed to repair damaged stretches immediately and improve service roads to facilitate vehicular movement.
