The 18th All India Conference of CITU will be held for the first time in the city from December 31 to Jan 4, 2026. To drum up support for the conference, noted film lyricist Suddhala Ashok Teja has penned songs, which were sung by playback singer Ramky Velagada.
The audio of the song and a poster were released by P. Bobby Vardhan, a former HoD of Journalism and Mass Communication, Andhra University, along with CITU State general secretary Ch. Narasinga Rao and singer Ramky Velagada at a media conference here on Monday (September 1).
Mr. Bobby Vardhan spoke about the contribution of CITU in the fight for the protection of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) and against the privatisation of the plant by the Modi government.
The importance of workers in the manufacturing industry could not be undermined, but it was unfortunate that workers’ rights were being disregarded. He said it was strange that Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan termed the VSP issue a ‘sensitive’ one.
While the alliance leaders claimed that VSP privatisation was a ‘thing of the past’, the Centre said there would be no going back on its plan for ‘strategic sale of VSP’. This was the reply given in Parliament to the question raised by a YSRCP MP recently. Tenders were called for handing over 34 sections in VSP to private players. The CITU national conference would help take the VSP issue forward, he said.
Mr. Narasinga Rao said 1,500 delegates from across the country were expected to participate in the national conference, being held for the first time in A.P. It would chalk out the future course of action to alleviate the problems of workers of various sectors and against the anti-labour laws.
Ramky Velagada, the playback singer, sang the song for the audience. CITU treasurer S. Jyothiswara Rao, vice-president K.M. Kumara Mangalam, party leaders B. Jagan and P. Mani were among those who were present.
