Authorities inquire into allegation of encroachment on ‘public pathway’

The District Revenue Authorities have initiated a probe into the allegation of encroachment on a “public pathway” at Kollankarai Vallundanpattu on the outskirts of Thanjavur town after a video of a woman attempting to prevent two men and a group of students passing by a site went viral on social media.

Inquiries reveal that the issue was brought to the notice of the Thanjavur Revenue Divisional officials in May this year and at the ‘peace meeting’ it was decided that movement of public through the ‘disputed land’ should not be prevented until the ownership of the portion of the land was ascertained by the officials.

As the issue had cropped up again, the Revenue officials started probing the allegation, sources added.
