Actor Ayushmann Khurrana has another reason to celebrate this festive season. His latest Diwali release, Thamma, has struck a chord with audiences across the country, marking yet another successful outing in his distinctive filmography. Known for choosing stories that blend mainstream entertainment with offbeat ideas, Ayushmann continues to carve his own niche in Hindi cinema.

Reacting to the film’s success, the actor shared, “Commercial success is huge validation for an actor. To have tasted success with my brand of cinema feels incredibly special because I truly love fresh and unique content. As an audience, I relate to this kind of content the most. So, to see people enjoy, endorse and recommend such cinema, is truly an incredible experience for an entertainer like me. I’m thrilled that so many of my films have become successful franchises. I’m truly fortunate for the love that people have showered on my films and my craft.”
Just days before the box-office feat, Ayushmann penned a heartfelt note on social media reflecting on what his first Diwali release meant to him. “Every year, since I remember, I used to go to theatres with my family to watch a film on Diwali. When I was a kid, my parents took me to this magical place that transported me to a world that I had never imagined. Then, I used to take them and Tahira and my kids to watch a big Diwali movie. It is a tradition in my family. Today, I have taken them to theatres to watch my film — my first Diwali release! It feels incredible!” he wrote.
Ayushmann also expressed gratitude to his team, thanking producer Dinesh Vijan for trusting him with a character “with no reference point like an Indian betaal,” and director Aditya Sarpotdar for pushing him creatively.
Produced by Maddock Films, Thamma is the fifth installment in the Maddock Horror-Comedy Universe (MHCU), which includes Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and Stree 2. The film also stars Rashmika Mandanna in the lead, with Nawazuddin Siddiqui and Paresh Rawal playing pivotal roles.
Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, who previously helmed Munjya, the film concludes by teasing the next chapter in the MHCU — Shakti Shalini, starring Aneet Padda as the new lead.
