Bandipur to Bidar bike rally to promote drug-free society


A three-day bike rally from Bandipur to Bidar will be organised from August 29 as part of the ‘Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan’ being observed by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.

The rally aims to raise awareness about the ill effects of alcohol and drug abuse and promote a drug-free society, according to Navin Raj Singh, Principal Secretary, Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Government of Karnataka, in a press release.

The event is being organised in collaboration with the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, the Forest Department, the National Service Scheme (NSS), and the NCC. Twenty bikers selected from the public will participate. Awareness programmes will be conducted in schools, colleges, and public places across major districts on the route.

Officials behind the initiative include Navin Raj Singh, Manoj Kumar, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Principal Secretary (Forests), R. Ravishankar, Chief Conservator of Forests (Development), S. Prabhakaran, Deputy Conservator of Forests and Director, Bandipur Tiger Reserve; and Sarfaraz Khan, Private Secretary to the Minister for Housing, Waqf and Minority Welfare, along with other senior officers.

Biker Nandini Mithun will also take part in the rally to inspire youth through her experiences.

Dignitaries will join at different stops to deliver lectures and messages, motivating young people to stay away from substance abuse. The State government aims to spread awareness and work towards building a healthy, drug-free society, the release added.
