Jagadish Shettar, MP, has directed railway officials to speed up projects in Belagavi district of Karnataka.
At a meeting with senior railway and other officials in Hubballi on November 17, he told officers to hold regular review meetings of various projects and ensure that they are completed on time.
Officials told him that over 90% of the land acquisition for the Belagavi–Kittur–Dharwad new railway was complete. The work would start once the government of Karnataka transferred land to the railway department. Officers said acquisition of nearly 16 acres is pending. The MP said he would follow up with State authorities to ensure early handover.
There is a proposal for a preliminary survey for laying a new line between Lokapura–Ramadurga–Savadatti–Dharwad. Mr. Shettar said this line would benefit devotees visiting temples in Ramadurga, Savadatti, and Shirasangi. He urged officials to pursue the process of getting approval from the Railway Board.
He directed officials to complete work on the second lane of the railway over-bridge near the Tilakwadi second gate in Belagavi. Officials cited some challenges, including traffic diversion at the work site. Mr Shettar said he would ask police officials to coordinate with them and make adequate arrangements for completing the work.
The MP said he had received several complaints about the slow pace of work at Belagavi Railway Station, which is being upgraded under the Pradhan Mantri Amrit Bharat Station Scheme.
“Also, there is need to take up work on the foot overbridge at Ghataprabha Railway Station,” he said.
Mr. Shettar said he had received requests for several new trains on Belagavi–Managuru, Belagavi–Madgaon–Udupi–Manguru, and Belagavi–Chennai (via Tirupati) routes. “We have also got requests for changing the timing of the Belagavi–Bengaluru Vande Bharat train. Commuters want the train to leave at 6 a.m. They also want the Vande Bharat train between Hubballi-Belagavi and Pune to operate daily,” he said.
