Bihar CM announces ₹10 lakh award for each player of India men’s hockey squad

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday (September 8, 2025) announced a cash reward of ₹10 lakh to each member of the Indian hockey team which won Hero Asia Cup 2025.

Mr. Kumar also announced ₹5 lakh to each support staff of the team. India’s hockey team defeated Korea 4-1 in the Hero Asia Cup at Rajgir on Sunday (September 7, 2025).

Extending best wishes to the Indian hockey team, Mr. Kumar in his social media post on X said that “The Indian hockey team has made the entire country proud with an exceptional victory in the Hero Asia Cup 2025 held for the first time at the State Sports Academy and Bihar Sports University campus in Rajgir. In order to encourage the players and support staff of the Indian hockey team which won the Hero Asia Cup 2025, the state government has decided to award them with prize money.”

“Each member of the winning Indian hockey team will be rewarded with ₹10 lakh, while the support staff will get ₹5 lakh each,” Mr. Kumar added.

The Indian hockey team won the Asia Cup after a gap of eight years. With this victory, the Indian team qualified for the FIH World Cup to be hosted jointly by Belgium and Netherlands in 2026.
