The Tamil Nadu Congress Committee’s (TNCC) former president K.V. Thangkabalu, on Monday (January 26, 2026), said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) cannot win in Tamil Nadu in the upcoming elections.

Mr. Thangkabalu participated in the inaugurations of the new district Congress presidents’ assuming office in Salem on Monday.

Addressing the reporters, Mr. Thangkabalu said that the Congress high command appointed 77 new district presidents across the State. As elections will be held in the next three months, new presidents should strengthen the party along with party cadre. Over 6,000 cadre submitted petitions to contest in upcoming assembly elections and the party’s national command will decide the candidates.

In the past 2024 Parliament elections, people of Tamil Nadu voted against the BJP in all 40 constituencies. “The AIADMK -BJP alliance will be defeated in the upcoming assembly elections. Congress is taking steps to bring the rule of Kamarajar in the State,” he added.
