A BJP team led by Ponguleti Sudhakar Reddy, BJP national co-in-charge for Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, met farmers at Thirumanthurai village, Thirupanandal taluk, on Sunday to hear their grievances.
During the interaction, farmers praised the NDA government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for initiatives such as PM-Kisan Nidhi, fertiliser subsidies, increase in minimum support price (MSP) for crops, soil health cards, and crop insurance schemes.
However, they alleged lapses in implementation by the State government, particularly in MSP payment and procurement. Farmers claimed that MSP benefits were not reaching them directly due to mediators and raised concern over a private sugar mill not clearing pending dues despite a court order.
Other issues highlighted included inadequate warehousing facilities to protect paddy from rain, poor canal maintenance, and insufficient paddy procurement centres opened by the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation, which, they said, was offering ₹40 a kg less than the Centre’s MSP.
Mr. Sudhakar Reddy, accompanied by BJP local functionaries including Tilakavati, Rajashekhar, Rajesh and Gopal Ram, accused the DMK government of “failing to protect farmers’ interests.”
