Bodies of the three persons, who were swept away in drains in two different instances in the city, could not be found despite intensive daylong search by the Hyderabad Disaster Response & Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA)’s forces on Monday (September 15, 2025).
HYDRAA chief A.V. Ranganath personally monitored the search operations at Asif Nagar where two youth got washed away into the Afzal Sagar drain, and at Vinoba Nagar where a retaining wall collapsed dragging another youth into the drain. It is reported that the motor bike of the Vinoba Nagar victim was found inside a catch-pit near Ramnagar.
Mr. Ranganath instructed the personnel to open every catch-pit as part of the search and close them immediately. District Collector D. Hari Chandana also inspected the two localities.

Interacting with the media, Mr. Ranganath blamed the mishaps on encroachment of drains. He said that not only were structures built over the drains, but the encroachers had also altered the water’s natural course, restricting its flow. He stressed that any construction obstructing the drainage would be removed, and assured that families from economically weaker sections who lose their homes in the process would be rehabilitated through alternative housing. A study will be taken up in coordination with the GHMC, Irrigation and Revenue departments before action is taken, he said.
