Britney Spears Slams ‘Sensationalism’ in Ex Kevin Federline’s Memoir

Britney Spears has clapped back at ex-husband Kevin Federline’s upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew.

“With news from Kevin’s book breaking, once again he and others are profiting off her, and sadly it comes after child support has ended with Kevin,” a rep for Spears, 43, said in a statement to Us Weekly on Tuesday, October 14. “All she cares about are her kids, Sean Preston and Jayden James, and their well-being during this sensationalism.”

Spears’ rep added that the pop star “detailed her journey in her memoir,” The Woman in Me, which was published in 2023.

Federline chronicled his marriage to Spears and the aftermath of her controversial conservatorship in his memoir, out October 21. The exes were married from 2004 to 2007 and share two children: Sean Preston, 20, and Jayden James, 19. Less than a year after the exes finalized their divorce, Britney’s father, Jamie Spears, placed her under a conservatorship after she had what was described at the time as a public breakdown.

Kevin Federline reflects on his past marriage to Britney Spears in his upcoming memoir, You Thought You Knew, and makes some wild claims about his ex. An excerpt from the book published via The New York Times on Tuesday, October 14, alleges that Federline, 47, and Spears’ two sons — Sean Preston, now 20, and […]

According to an excerpt of the former backup dancer’s book, published by the New York Times on Tuesday, Federline claimed that Sean Preston and Jayden James were afraid of staying with their mom.

“They would awaken sometimes at night to find her standing silently in the doorway, watching them sleep — ‘Oh, you’re awake?’ — with a knife in her hand,” Federline wrote. “Then she’d turn around and pad off without explanation.”

Federline also recalled “one of the hardest nights” he claimed he ever endured, which involved Spears being placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold in 2008 after a standoff that involved their children.

“I felt sick over what she was going through,” Federline penned. “This was someone I had loved. Someone I had built a life with. The mother of my children.”

Federline also touched on the Free Britney movement — the public outcry to end Jamie’s conservatorship over the pop star. (A judge terminated the conservatorship in November 2021.)

In his book, Federline shared his belief that the movement may have done more harm than good. He also reflected on his ex’s social media activities.

“The truth is, this situation with Britney feels like it’s racing toward something irreversible,” Federline wrote. “It’s become impossible to pretend everything’s OK. From where I sit, the clock is ticking, and we’re getting close to the eleventh hour. Something bad is going to happen if things don’t change, and my biggest fear is that our sons will be left holding the pieces.”

Nearly two years to the day after Britney Spears released her memoir, the Princess of Pop’s ex-husband Kevin Federline is set to publish his own tell-all with the fiery title You Thought You Knew. “Kevin spent about three or four years working on the book,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “This wasn’t an overnight […]

In an interview with The New York Times, Federline explained that he had not spoken to his ex-wife “in years,” but reiterated he did have her back during some of her most challenging times.

“I’ve never, ever, once, been against Britney,” he claimed. “I’ve only tried to help my sons have an incredible relationship with their mother. And it’s hard because when I really reflect on everything that’s happened — my kids do not know the woman that I married. And I’ve spent two decades trying to bridge that gap.”

Britney and her children were at one point estranged following the reversal of her conservatorship. As a result, Sean Preston and Jayden James moved with their dad to Hawaii. However, the singer and her sons have since reunited earlier this year.

You Thought You Knew is available in bookstores next Tuesday, October 21.
