The opening of the Hosakerehalli flyover on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) seems like an achievement of the city in 2025. Like previous years, a Bengalurean’s wishlist for 2026 would definitely feature completion of the much-delayed Ejipura flyover and the one on Doddaballapur Road, Yelahanka.
Ejipura flyover
The 2.38-km Ejipura flyover, planned to decongest the Intermediate Ring Road in Koramangala, stuck since 2019, finally picked up pace in 2025, with segment launching and span installation showing steady progress between June and December. However, the civic body is yet to clear the project’s major and perennial hurdle: land acquisition.
On the ground, segment launching works are currently in full swing between Pier 8 and 20, which will continue until mid-January, according to engineers present at the site. Further, construction of ramps near the Ejipura junction is under way, causing major traffic disruption during peak hours.
On the other hand, the project requires the acquisition of three land parcels, of which two are government land. The major hurdle has been the St. John’s Medical College and Hospital land, the case for which is currently before the court. Officials say the process will pick up in January, but the deadline appears far from reality owing to the complications involved.
“St. John’s Medical College and Hospital land is necessary because we need a portal beam at that particular point as per our design diagrams. We have a ramp planned at that location,” an engineer overseeing the project told The Hindu.
According to the officer, the deadline may be pushed further if the case settlement and acquisition are delayed. However, Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA) sources are optimistic about completing the acquisition process by the end of January.

Meanwhile, M. Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner, GBA, has set June, 2026, as the deadline to complete the project, which appears too optimistic at this point. However, if everything goes as planned, segment launching and span installation will be completed by March, while ramp construction may continue until May. It may take another month to complete minor works.
The Ejipura junction is a gateway to eastern Bengaluru for residents of south and southeast Bengaluru. Traffic from Koramangala, BTM Layout, and HSR Layout uses the Intermediate Ring Road (IRR) to reach Indiranagar, making the Ejipura jJunction a crucial link.
Madhav Punyaslok, a Koramangala resident who uses the IRR to reach Indiranagar every day, said the junction takes at least six to 10 minutes to cross, especially for those coming from Sony Signal.
“As construction has narrowed the lane near the junction, it takes a lot of time. However, it is a sign that shows progress on the project. Once the construction is over, the IRR will see a dramatic decline in traffic,” he noted.
The site engineer told The Hindu that ramp construction at Ejipura junction will be completed by the end of January.
Yelahanka flyover
While the much delayed Ejipura flyover has sparked a host of jokes, memes and chatter, resulting in continuous monitoring of the project, the flyover on Doddaballapura Road, Yelahanka, is less talked about.
The work on the short 1.8-km long flyover on Doddaballapur Road between Yelahanka police station and BWSSB junction began in 2022, with a deadline of 18 months for work to be completed. But the work is dragging on even now.
In June, 2025, the GBA Chief Commissioner, then heading the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), inspected ongoing works and set a new deadline of December, 2025, for works to be completed. However, it is nowhere near completion.
While most of the pillars have been erected, work is on to install the girders in place. Construction of the ramp has begun at Sandeep Unnikrishnan Road and girders are yet to be placed at the other end. Sources in GBA said the new deadline for the project is May, 2026.
The flyover is designed to provide a signal-free commute on Doddaballapur Road. But residents of the area say the prolonged construction has created more problems than the traffic signals and even question the need for this flyover.
“We lose nearly an hour in the morning and evening combined. Weekends are even worse. Actually, we do not understand why this flyover is needed at all,” said Varadaraj M., a resident of the area.
A senior civic official said that work on the flyover was inordinately delayed as it was being carried out only during the night. “This is a State highway and there is no service road. So we cannot divert traffic. There were some hurdles in land acquisition and shifting utilities, which have been cleared now,” the official said.
