MADURAI
The Central team, constituted for assessing the moisture content of paddy, following their visit to the Delta regions visited the Direct Procurement Centres (DPC) in Madurai region on Monday.
Officials of the Ministry of Food and Public Distribution and Food Corporation of India (FCI) along with the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation (TNCSC), visited three DPCs at Kattakulam, T. Andipatti, and Bodinayakanpatti, falling under the Vadipatti taluk.
The team, comprising R.K. Shahi, Deputy Director, Department of Food and Public Distribution, Rahul Sharma, Technical Officer, Tanij Sharma, Technical Officer, N. Ayyanar, Manager, FCI DO, V.G. Manikandan, Manager, TNCSC and S. Saravanan, Regional Manager, TNCSC, made a visit to the three DPCs and collected paddy samples for testing.
Officials said, as the overall demand from the farmers was to relax moisture content norms from 17% to 22%, the Central team took note of the farmers’ grievances and assured them of speedy action.
