A Delhi court on Friday remanded Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati to 14 days’ judicial custody in connection with multiple cases of alleged sexual harassment, cheating, forgery, and criminal conspiracy.

The 62-year-old former director of the Shri Sharada Institute of Indian Management-Research in Vasant Kunj was produced before Judicial Magistrate Animesh Kumar at Patiala House Courts after the expiry of his five-day police custody. He was apprehended from Agra on September 28.

Last week, Delhi Police froze assets worth ₹8 crore linked to his various bank accounts and fixed deposits after several women students lodged FIRs against him. According to the complaints, Mr. Saraswati, who was dismissed from his post soon after the allegations surfaced, allegedly forced female students to visit his quarters late at night and sent them inappropriate messages at odd hours. He is also accused of monitoring their movements through his phone. An investigation into the case also found that Mr. Saraswati operated multiple bank accounts under different names and details, and withdrew over ₹50 lakh after the FIRs were registered.
