The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) launched a digital-transformation initiative for MSMEs on December 9, 2025 (Tuesday), at Sri Krishna College of Engineering and Technology in Coimbatore.

The initiative, supported by NITI Frontier Tech Hub and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), aims to bring digital technology to the MSME sector through structured assessments and capacity-building activities.

S. Malarvizhi, chairperson and Managing Trustee of Sri Krishna Institutions, said the collaboration will support students through direct exposure to the MSME sector. The initiative will give students access to digital-transformation courses. At least 100 MSME assessments — evaluations of existing processes and digital-readiness in small industrial units — will be carried out each year, allowing each participating student to work on real assessment projects. Workshops and training programmes will be held to introduce emerging technologies, and students completing project cycles will receive certificates.

J. Ganesh Kumar, former chairman of CII Coimbatore Zone and Managing Director of Indo Shell Cast Private Limited, spoke about use of digital tools at factories to improve decision-making and monitor production in real time. He said these changes are becoming common even in smaller units.

The initiative allows students to work on real industrial problems, understand factory systems, analyse data, and tackle operational challenges. Digital tools, when paired with trained manpower, can strengthen MSMEs and leverage Coimbatore’s dense industrial base for collaboration, he said.
