Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday (October 22, 2025) said the State wants a revision of the electoral rolls in Maharashtra. “We want SIR (special intensive revision) in Maharashtra. There are problems with the electoral rolls, and even we have been raising them. But while the Opposition says there are problems, it opposes SIR,” he told journalists during an interaction on the occasion of Deepavali at his official residence.
Mr. Fadnavis alleged that the Opposition had benefited the most from the duplication in electoral rolls. “When the Election Commission had called for suggestions and objections, they did not give any. Duplication in lists has been an issue. There is large-scale repetition of names due to migration. Lists need to be cleaned. The cleaning of electoral rolls will only help the BJP,” he said.
Rejecting Opposition calls for postponing the local body polls in the State on the grounds of alleged irregularities in the voters’ list, the Chief Minister said all ground-level cadres of parties are charged up and any party opposing elections at this juncture will face desertion.
‘Mahayuti together’
Mr. Fadnavis said that all three constituents of the ruling Mahayuti alliance – BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP – will fight the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation elections together. He said in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, the BJP and NCP will fight separately while in Thane, the call will be taken by Sena chief and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who considers the region to be his bastion.
The Chief Minister ruled out any immediate Cabinet reshuffle on the lines of Gujarat but said there will be a performance audit after the government completes one year.
