CM promises to complete works on CIAL-funded bridges in 18 months

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Saturday (September 27, 2025) promised to complete the works on three bridges to be built by Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) in the neighbouring panchayats in 18 months. He was inaugurating the construction of bridges that would come up at Puliyampilly, Madathimoola, and Chovvara at a total cost of ₹40 crore.

The bridges are being built under the ‘Operation Pravah’ project, which aims to protect the areas surrounding the airport from flood threats. The Puliyampilly bridge is proposed to be 200 metres long, while the Chovvara bridge will have a length of 114 metres. The Madathimoola bridge will be 177 metres long. Residents of Chengamanadu, Sreemoolanagaram, Kanjoor and Kalady grama panchayats are expected to benefit from the new bridges.

“CIAL plans each of its projects keeping in mind how the local people can benefit from the growth of the airport. A large share of the profit of CIAL is being used for the development of the infrastructure in the region and the welfare of the public,” the Chief Minister said.

Industries Minister P. Rajeeve chaired the meet. Benny Behanan, MP; Anwar Sadath, MLA; Roji M. John, MLA, Chief Secretary A. Jayathilak, CIAL managing director S. Suhas, and airport director Manu G were among those who attended the event.
