Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has shot off a series of questions to Leader of the Opposition V.D. Satheesan sharply criticising the Opposition for its antagonistic stance towards all development projects brought forth by the Left Democratic Front government.
In a Facebook post penned on Tueday, on the first phase of local body elections, Mr. Vijayan questioned Mr. Satheesan’s stance on the position taken by former UDF convener and senior Congress leader M.M. Hassan that all four development initiatives started by the LDF government , including the LIFE Mission, would be disbanded. He asked if the Congress was still sticking to this position.
He accused the Opposition of aligning with all the unwarranted opposition against the Vizhinjam port and asked the Opposition Leader VD Satheesan, now that the Vizhinjam port has been commissioned, whether he still maintained his opposition
Mr. Vijayan questioned whether Mr. Satheesan would continue to oppose the Wayanad tunnel road, the work on which has already begun and the coastal highway, which the Opposition had opposed vehemently and which is now nearing completion
He reminded the Opposition Leader that the government giving welfare pension to 62 lakh people was termed by AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal as mere bribery for gaining votes. Mr. Vijayan asked if Mr. Satheesan also considered welfare pensions to be a bribe and those receiving welfare pensions as “bribe-takers”
Mr. Vijayan pointed out that National Highway development and GAIL pipeline project were vehemently opposed by the Opposition but that both projects were a reality now.
Through KIIFB, Kerala had taken up unprecedented development initiatives which were crucial for the State’s progress. Mr. Vijayan accused the Opposition of aligning with the Centre’s alleged attempts to disrupt these development activities carried out through KIIFB.
Schools and hospitals have been upgraded and many public facilities have been made world-class through KIIFB funding. Will the Opposition leader continue to oppose these development initiatives, the CM asked.
He reminded the Opposition that they had opposed Kerala’s efforts at eradicating extreme poverty and had raised false allegations against the project.
Kerala Bank, K-Phone and K-Rail were also opposed by the Congress. Mr. Vijayan said that the Congress had opposed every single development initiative that was brought forth by the Left government
He also pointed out that it was bizarre that the Leader of the Opposition should state that the “CPI(M) was in the dock” even when allegations of sexual harassment by its own MLA and Youth Congress leader had surfaced.
