Coimbatore gang-rape: JM-I to conduct test identification parade; one-way mirror room ready in central prison

The First Judicial Magistrate (JM-I) has been assigned to conduct the test identification parade (TIP) of the three accused in the Coimbatore gang-rape case.

Officers privy to the investigation said that the investigating team submitted a plea before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Court (CJM) for TIP in the case. The CJM assigned JM-I to conduct the TIP, which is expected to take place in a couple of days.

Coimbatore City Police Commissioner A. Saravana Sundar said the date for the TIP has not been fixed and the magistrate concerned would conduct it in due course of time.

Police sources said that the three accused in the case, T. Karuppasamy alias Satheesh (30), his brother T. Kaleeswaran alias Karthik (21) and M. Guna alias Thavasi (20), need to recover from the gunshots they suffered on their legs during the arrest on November 3, to be paraded for TIP.

Meanwhile, the gang-rape case has been transferred from the Second Judicial Magistrate Court, which is the jurisdictional court of Peelamedu station where the case was registered, to the Additional Mahila Court as it is case of crime against a woman.

One-way room ready in prison

A room with a one-way mirror facility is available at the Coimbatore Central Prison for the conduct of the TIP as per norms, said a prison official. The arrangement allows a witness to identify suspect/s without being seen by the suspect/s or fillers (other individuals in the line up).

Police sources added that the magistrate will conduct separate TIPs for the 20-year-old survivor and her boyfriend aged 25.
