
Perambalur Collector N. Mirunalini inspects the Arumbavur Big Tank on Wednesday.
Collector N. Mirunalini has instructed officials of the Water Resources Department to maintain a vigil on all lakes in the district and to take adequate precautionary measures to avert breaches during the monsoon.
The Collector gave the instructions while inspecting the Arumbavur Big Tank in the district on Wednesday. Ms. Mirunalini inspected the tank as a breach had occurred on the tank bund during the monsoon last year. She inspected the tank bunds which had been strengthened since.
The inspection came in the wake of widespread rainfall in the district and heavy rainfall in Pachamalai hills and the possibility of the Arumbavur Big Tank reaching its full capacity soon, according to an official press release.
The Arumbavur Big Tank has a capacity to hold 52.63 million cubic feet of water and has an ayacut of 563.33 acres. It has a water spread area of 220.40 acres.
Ms. Mirunalini also inspected the desilting of the inlet channels of the Thuraimangalam Big Tank. M. Pandian, Executive Engineer, WRD, R. Srinivasan, Assistant Executive Engineer, WRD, and other officials accompanied her.
The Collector urged people to desist from bathing/entering or taking selfies near water bodies during the monsoon.
