Collector S. Kandasamy on Thursday (December 18, 2025) inspected a joint drill conducted at the Erode Junction Railway Station in coordination with Southern Railway, Salem Division, and the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
The exercise simulated a train accident, with two coaches deliberately derailed to create an emergency scenario. Railway staff immediately informed the Station Master, who alerted the divisional control room at Salem. The Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Additional Divisional Railway Manager (ADRM), and other officials coordinated the rescue and relief operations from both the site and the control room.
Personnel from various departments, including the Railway Hospital, Operations, Mechanical, Signal, Electrical, Engineering, Railway Protection Force (RPF), and Government Railway Police (GRP), responded promptly and carried out rescue and relief activities as per standard procedures.
The drill aimed to enhance coordination between different stakeholders, evaluate disaster management plans, identify procedural gaps, and improve rapid response capabilities to minimise human casualties during real emergencies.
Salem Division’s DRM Panna Lal, Divisional Security Officer A. Ramachandran, and other railway officials were present during the exercise.
