College girl attacked with acid; hunt on to nab accused

A 20-year-old woman suffered burn injuries in an acid attack allegedly carried out by her stalker and his associates near Laxmibai College in north-west Delhi on Sunday, a police officer said.

The incident occurred when the survivor, a second-year student, was walking towards her college for an extra class. The accused has been identified as Jitender, and his associates as Ishan and Arman.

DCP (North West) Bhisham Singh said the survivor told the police that she was intercepted by Mr. Jitender and his associates. “Ishan handed an acid bottle to Arman, who threw the acid on her. She raised her hands to shield her face, resulting in burn injuries on both hands,” the DCP said.

“All three accused fled. The woman was rushed to Deep Chand Bandhu Hospital,” the officer said.

The DCP said the prime accused had been stalking the survivor for several months and they allegedly argued last month, after which the harassment became more intense. “A case has been registered and efforts are on to trace the accused,” he added.
