Congress MLC Addanki Dayakar sought an unconditional apology from BRS working president K.T. Rama Rao for insulting the Assembly Speaker by comparing him with ‘Dhrutarashtra’, a mythological figure.

In a statement here, he referred to a play staged in the BRS office and said it was aimed at insulting the Speaker, a highly respected figure in the Constitution, and also Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy.

He questioned whether such language reflected democratic maturity or political culture. “Is it appropriate or civilised to equate a constitutional authority with a mythological character in a derogatory manner?” he asked. “Such conduct was unbecoming of a senior political leader,” he added.

The MLC accused the BRS leadership of adopting a contradictory stance, opposing constitutional institutions in practice while pretending to uphold constitutional values in public. “This is nothing but a political drama.”

Mr. Dayakar said that while dissent and criticism were integral to democracy, they must be expressed within the bounds of decorum and respect for constitutional offices.

In a separate statement, PCC general secretary Chanagani Dayakar requested the DGP to take suo motu the insult of the Constitution and the Constitutional figures and take legal action.
