A 19-year-old Instagram influencer was nabbed from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, by Delhi Police for allegedly aiding an inter-State online fraud syndicate.
Police detained Hukum Singh Rawat alias Anuj, a B.A. second-year student with over four lakh followers, for his role in a ₹1.8 lakh tractor sale scam.
Police said he received a 4% to 5% commission for providing bank accounts later used to launder cyber fraud proceeds.
According to police, Mr. Rawat wanted to use the proceeds to hire artistes and purchase video equipment to expand his online presence. “He has been in touch with a fellow accused Rahul who lured him into sharing his bank account details with the syndicate. He later also influenced some of his friends with whom he used to make videos to open bank accounts and share them with the syndicate for gaining commissions,” said a police officer.
