Chief Minister Rekha Gupta led a cleanliness drive on Tuesday at the Ring Road, urging citizens to refrain from defacing walls with posters or graffiti.
“I request that at least do not paste posters with my photograph. No type of defacement will be tolerated. We should keep working to clean the city,” Ms. Gupta said.
The cleanliness drive was a part of ‘Seva Pakhwada’, a 15-day social service campaign to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
Ms. Gupta emphasised that cleanliness should not just be a matter of a drive, but a daily effort, with every section of society, including RWAs, public representatives, and common citizens, participating.
Several Ministers also participated in the drive along Ring Road.
Hindi language event
The CM also joined the ‘Hindi Pakhwada’ event at Delhi Secretariat and said that “other languages grew and flourished from Hindi”.
“Hindi is the language of our identity and pride. If Sanskrit is our root, then Hindi is the trunk from which other languages grow and flourish. Learning foreign languages is useful, but we should never feel hesitant about our own language. Just as no one can take the place of a mother, no other language can take the place of Hindi,” Ms. Gupta said in a statement.
The event was hosted by the Department of Art, Culture, and Languages.
