Delhi’s overall air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category for the second consecutive day on Wednesday, and slipped to ‘very poor’ at some locations.
The Capital’s 24-hour average AQI was 233 at 4 p.m., up from 211 the previous day, according to the Central Pollution Control Board’s daily bulletin. A higher AQI indicates more air pollution.
Five of the 38 monitoring stations recorded ‘very poor’ air quality. The highest average AQI was recorded at Anand Vihar (345), followed by Wazirpur (325), Dwarka Sector 8 (314), and DU North Campus and Mathura Road (both at 307), according to CPCB.
An AQI between 51 and 100 falls under the ‘satisfactory’ category, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’, and 401 and 500 ‘severe’.
According to the Central government’s Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi, “The air quality is very likely to be in the poor category from October 16 to 18. It will likely be in the very poor category on October 20 and 21.”
