Dense fog in North India disrupts air traffic; 29 flights cancelled at Hyderabad airport on December 16

Dense fog across Delhi and several parts of northern India continued to disrupt aviation operations on Tuesday (December 16, 2025) with the impact being felt far beyond the region. Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) reported as many as 29 flight cancellations during the day owing to knock-on effects from weather-related disruptions in the north.

Heavy fog and poor visibility disrupt flight operations at Delhi airport

According to Hyderabad airport authorities, the cancellations included 15 arrivals and 14 departures. The affected flights were operating on routes connecting Hyderabad with major cities including Delhi, Mumbai, Patna, Ahmedabad, Pune, Goa, Bhubaneswar, Bangalore, Chennai and Madurai.

In a passenger advisory issued on the evening of December 15, Hyderabad airport authorities cautioned that flight operations could be affected owing to heavy fog conditions in northern India. Passengers were advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates before heading to the airport.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation also issued an advisory on X on Tuesday morning (December 16, 2025), stating that adverse weather conditions, particularly dense fog, were impacting aviation operations in parts of northern India. Travellers were urged to verify flight schedules in advance and follow airline advisories. The Ministry said it was actively monitoring the situation and coordinating with all stakeholders to minimise inconvenience to passengers.
