The Water Resources Department has begun clearing the wild growth that impeded the water flow on the inlet channel to the Kurumbalur tank in Perambalur district.
The tank situated along the Perambalur-Thuraiyur road is spread over 60.66 hectares with a substantial ayacut area.
However, farmers had been complaining of wild growth of vegetation and silt accumulation on the inlet channel, the inflow to the tank has been affected. Based on representations submitted during the monthly farmers grievances meeting, Collector S. Arunraj had mobilised support from donors to desilt the inlet channel.
The channel would be desilted and cleared of vegetation under the initiative. Mr. Arunraj, who inaugurated the exercise recently, said it would help improve storage at the tank and benefit farmers in the locality. He instructed the WRD officials to complete the work at the earliest.
