Confusion and chaos prevailed at Yeshwantpur Railway Station on Monday evening after a group pulled the alarm chain on a Goa-bound train while under the influence of alcohol and allegedly assaulted a Railway Protection Force (RPF) staff member when questioned.
In a statement, the RPF said the group objected and failed to comply with the instructions given by the staff. The situation escalated when the group allegedly manhandled the RPF staff. With the assistance of additional staff, the situation was brought under control.
Railway police have detained three people. A preliminary inquiry revealed that the three were part of a group of 14 individuals who were travelling together on a trip.
“Railway police is interrogating them, following which necessary action will be initiated,” a source said.
According to the police, during the departure of Train No. 17309, the Yeshvantpur–Vasco da Gama Express, one member of the group pulled the alarm chain in Coach S3. RPF personnel deployed on the platform immediately responded and proceeded to the coach.
