The Delhi government will soon resume its inter-State bus service from the Capital to Uttar Pradesh, Transport Minister Pankaj Kumar Singh said on Friday.
The formal announcement will be made during the ‘Sewa Pakhwada’, which is being observed till October 2, an official said.
The service will resume on a pilot route from Maharana Pratap ISBT in Delhi to Baraut in U.P.’s Baghpat district, Mr. Singh said.
The buses, now revamped with air conditioning, will cover areas such as Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Loni, the Uttar Pradesh border, Mandola, Khekta, Katha, Baghpat, Goripur, Saroorpur, and Tyodhi before reaching Baraut.
According to the Minister, Baraut-bound buses from Delhi will ply from 4.30 a.m. to 6 p.m., while Delhi-bound buses from Baraut will operate from 7 a.m. to 8.30 p.m.
“Fares will start from ₹32 and go up to ₹125,” Mr. Singh added.
Stopped in 2010
The bus service was discontinued in 2010 after the Capital made a shift to CNG buses and there were inadequate CNG pumps in Uttar Pradesh, a senior Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) official said.
Now, with the DTC looking to increase its revenue, it has planned several other routes for the bus service to promote “religious tourism” and “cultural connection”.
“This new inter-State AC bus service is not just about improving mobility but also about supporting livelihoods, bridging communities, and ensuring that people from every walk of life are able to travel comfortably at affordable prices. We are paving the way for both economic growth and cultural exchange,” Mr. Singh said.
