The Delhi University (DU) on Monday held a ‘bhoomi pooja’ ceremony for a new residential block at the Dhaka Campus in the North Campus.
University Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh, the chief guest at the event, stated that the state-of-the-art building, being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹332.83 crore, will offer modern residential facilities for students.
Students have been demanding more accommodation facilities, as the first batch of fourth-year students entered the Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) this year.
The new block will accommodate a total of 1,436 students, with the hostels for boys and girls accommodating around 718 students each. Each of the hostels will include 58 single accommodations, 220 triple accommodations, and 38 en-suite accommodations for married students, the university said in a statement.
