Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday joined Durga Puja celebrations at Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park and described the festivities as a symbol of “unity and cultural vibrancy”.
Marking the occasion of Maha Ashtami, Mr. Modi offered prayers at the historic Kali Mandir and visited the neighbourhood’s iconic Durga Pujas organised by the C.R. Park Kali Mandir Society. In a post on X, shared in both Bengali and English, he said he prayed for the happiness and well-being of all. “Today, on the auspicious occasion of Maha Ashtami, I went to Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park to take part in the Durga Puja celebrations. Chittaranjan Park is known for its strong association with Bengali culture. The celebrations truly reflect the spirit of unity and cultural vibrancy in our society. Prayed for everyone’s happiness and well-being,” he said.
Mr. Modi was accompanied by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and several BJP MPs and MLAs.
“PM Modi offered prayers here in C.R. Park for everyone, and took blessings,” said New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj.
In anticipation of the PM’s visit, several security arrangements were put in place at C.R. Park.
Prodip Ganguly, vice-president of the Kali Mandir Society, said the PM’s visit to the temple was a “matter of pride”.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi didn’t just visit the temple, but also participated in the puja according to Bengali rituals on the day of Maha Ashtami. We were honoured,” added Mr. Ganguly. This year, three of the biggest Durga Puja pandals of C.R. Park are celebrating their golden jubilees.
