Officials of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) arrested the Circle Inspector of Nesamony Nagar in the late hours of Friday, on charges of accepting a bribe.
According to DVAC sources, J. Anbuprakash, 58, Circle Inspector of Nesamony Nagar had allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹1.15 lakh from R. Rajan, of Nagercoil for disposing of a case registered at Asaripallam police station, as a mistake of fact.
Acting on the complaint lodged by Mr. Rajan, DVAC officials laid a trap and arrested Mr. Anbuparaksh near his residence in Christhu Nagar, while he was receiving the bribe.
A phenolphthalein test conducted at the spot yielded a positive result. The officials seized the bribe amount and arrested Anbuparaksah.
Further investigations are underway.
