DVAC arrests Tiruchi West RTO Motor Vehicle Inspector on graft charge


A Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Grade-II serving at the office of the Regional Transport Officer, Tiruchi West, at Pirattiyur here was arrested by the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti Corruption (DVAC) on the charge of demanding and accepting bribe. 

Along with the MVI K. Mani Bharathi, 45, the DVAC team arrested A. Dileep Kumar, 33, a private individual who allegedly received the bribe money on the direction of the Motor Vehicle Inspector.

The action was taken by the DVAC acting on a complaint preferred by Palaniappan of Gundur in Tiruchi, an ex-serviceman running a driving school in Tiruchi.  DVAC sources said Palaniappan had approached the Motor Vehicle Inspector Mani Bharathi for processing and granting Learners Licence for two applicants. The MVI allegedly demanded ₹1,000 as bribe from Mr. Palaniappan.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, Mr. Palaniappan lodged a complaint with the DVAC, Tiruchi unit. The sources said the DVAC laid a trap and arrested the official with the bribe amount.  The DVAC team caught Dileep Kumar, an employee of another driving school, after he allegedly received the bribe amount on the direction of the MVI.

Besides seizing the alleged bribe money, the team confiscated ₹13,000 unaccounted cash from Dileep Kumar. The MVI and Dileep Kumar were subsequently arrested. A case under different provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered. The DVAC team later conducted a search at the residence of the MVI here, the sources added.
