On its very opening day, Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat has done well enough to emerge as a success story. Made on a very controlled budget, all it needed was a lifetime of Rs. 30-40 crores to sail through. Well, indications are that it will do double of that easily as the very first day of the film stands at Rs. 10.10 crores.
It was predicted in this column that the film was heading for an opening day of Rs. 8-10 crores and the actual numbers have come at the higher end of the range. This goes on to show how there was a strong undercurrent for the film, especially in the interiors, where audiences have warmed up to the age-old concept of ‘aashiq’ and their ‘aashiqui’. Add to that the whole vengeance angle and the gentry jumped on to the film as well. The music had already done well to create awareness around the film and then the mini-comeback of Harshvardhan Rane post the re-release of Sanam Teri Kasam had made it all count. As for Sonam Bajwa, she has her own fanbase.
Director Milap Zaveri is having the final laugh as his vintage style of 90s style storytelling which had worked earlier in action drama Satyameva Jayate and now romantic drama Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat is actually finding its own set of audiences. Instead of pleasing critics, he is serving his audience and that’s what has not just showed on the opening day but should also speak the loudest when the final results are out.
