Ayushmann Khurrana shared the strategic thinking behind releasing Thamma during India’s most celebrated festival, “I personally go to watch films during festivals. I really enjoy it. Community viewing happens a lot during festival time. And this is my first festival release. For the first time, I’ll watch my film at a festival on Diwali. I’m very excited. I’m sure other people will also be excited.”
He downplays the pressure, instead trusting in the power of good storytelling, “I don’t think much about responsibility. I’m a content-first guy. So, if I find the content good, interesting, I feel it should be brought to the big screen. I go with it. The rest is your destiny and of course how much people will like the film – it depends on that.”
Building on Maddock’s Winning Formula
The success of predecessors like Stree 2 and Munjya has created the perfect launchpad for Thamma, “Thankfully Stree 2 and Munjya were very successful films last year. And Thamma’s excitement has increased because of that. We’ve been working on Thamma for the past four-five years. And because of these two successful films, this has become the most exciting,” Ayushmann notes.

Ayushmann hinted that Thamma is a crucial piece in Maddock’s master plan, “Yes, I know. In fact, I know what’s going to happen next and which characters are coming. Then after that, Stree will return again… They don’t want to randomly make films. They have a certain plan.”
