Ophthalmologists from across the country were honoured at the 11th annual ‘Surgical Strike 360’, a two-day ophthalmology conference held in the city by Rajan Eye Care and the Young Ophthalmologists Society of India (YOSI).
The conference was inaugurated on Saturday by T.S. Surendran, chairman, Sankara Nethralaya, in the presence of Diva Kant Misra, president of YOSI; Sujatha Mohan, executive medical director, Rajan Eye Care; and Mohan Rajan, chairman & medical director, Rajan Eye Care.
“This year’s Surgical Strike is slightly different because we are unable to do live surgeries due to regulations by the National Medical Commission. Instead, we are showing deferred live surgeries which are equally, if not more, interesting,” Dr. Rajan said.
Dr. Surendran congratulated the organisers for holding the conference.
Opthalmologist V.M. Sankaran received the Lifetime Achievement Award, and Namakkal-based ophthalmologist Ranganathan was honoured for developing an innovative daily calendar that doubles as a myopia-screening chart, which was distributed in schools across Namakkal, Salem, and other districts.
The conference featured deferred live surgeries presented in a near-to-live format, and included a range of subspecialties such as cataract, refractive surgery, secondary IOL, glaucoma, vitreoretina, cornea, oculoplasty, squint, and intravitreal injections.
