The father of the Delhi University student had “thrown the acid on his daughter”, the Delhi police said on Tuesday, adding that the entire acid attack incident was “staged”.
The 20-year-old student’s father was arrested on Monday on charges of orchestrating the incident.
“The student’s father was on the pillion seat of the bike ridden by her brother when he threw toilet cleaner at his daughter, and then fled from the spot,” said a senior officer.
The student had accused Jitender, Ishan, and Arman of “throwing acid on her” on October 26 when she was on her way to college for an extra class.
However, during the initial probe, the police learned that the conspiracy was hatched to implicate Mr. Jitender, whose wife had filed a complaint of sexual assault and harassment against the student’s father, and Mr. Ishan and Mr. Arman, whose mother had filed an acid attack case against the student’s father in 2018.
“During interrogation, the student said that her father asked for her help when he failed to convince Jitender’s wife to drop the sexual assault complaint,” said the officer. The police are looking for the student’s relative, who was allegedly involved in the attack.
