The Chilakalapudi Police began investigation to find out who created a fake account impersonating Krishna district Superintendent of Police (SP) V. Vidyasagar Naidu.
Miscreants reportedly created fake Facebook account with the photograph and name of the SP, and have sent friend requests to the public requesting them to send money.
“When the issue came into our notice, we have blocked the fake account, removed the related link and alerted the public,” said Machilipatnam Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ch. Raja.
The Chilakalapudi and the Cybercrime police are trying to trace the accused, the DSP told The Hindu on Tuesday.
Public are requested to be alert and complain to the National Cybercrime Portal No.1930, if they receive any fake messages or notice any online frauds, the DSP said.
