Fake motor insurance policy surfaces in accident compensation case

A case of forged motor insurance documents came to light following a compensation claim filed in connection with a fatal road accident.

The Kamatipura police registered a case on Tuesday evening after a city-based insurance manager lodged a complaint.

According to an officer from Kamatipura police, a petition seeking ₹25 lakh as compensation was filed before the Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) at L.B. Nagar by one Pavithra, in connection with a road accident on January 5, 2021.

The tribunal issued notice to the insurance company as one of the respondents.

On verification, the insurance company found that the policy document submitted in the case and purportedly issued for an Ashok Leyland Comet vehicle with registration number AP-09-V-2764, had never been issued from its records.

Police said the policy appeared to have been forged to make fraudulent claims.

Based on the complaint, Kamatipura police registered a case under Sections 318(4), 336(3) and 340(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and have taken up investigation.
